CORONER’S COURT – TEAMS CAMERAS

We were instructed to install a new video camera system to Court 2 in a well-known Coroner’s Court in the heart of London. The project entailed installation of four new 4K PTZ Conference Cameras to capture true-to-life footage from the jury and gallery seating areas, the judge’s seating position and the defendant lectern. Combined with a mini PC designed to process heavy loads and tasks, we were confident in the level of quality we could provide.

At the time of survey, the court was operating an ad-hoc arrangement for the broadcast of proceedings via Microsoft Teams, using four laptops each with portable cameras attached.

The cameras we chose offered a wide field view and multiple installation options. The feeds would combine into a 2×2 image with output to the two existing local screens and Teams as a single camera feed via one Teams account.

Court 2 already had microphones in each of the proposed camera locations for audio recording and sound reinforcement. Our plan was to use this audio set-up to complement the camera feeds. This method would provide superior audio quality as opposed to that from the built-in camera microphones.

We provided a control panel to enable operation of all new cameras and audio with on/off and mute options.

The demanding need for the court’s services to investigate unexplained and sudden deaths and inquests made it difficult for us to complete works in working hours. As such, we attended out of hours and on weekends to install the cameras and complete the connectivity of each source.

Following a successful install, the Court 2 now functions via a modern and reliable technical system, providing full coverage of any proceedings.
